About Me & My Blog

  • My Blog

I just recently started this blog (January 21, 2008), and since it’s my first ever please don’t expect any mind-blowing content (yet). Stories of Serendipity will mainly consist of my views on the world’s (and in particular my life’s) daily (pleasant) surprises and (not so pleasant) annoyances. I do not update on a regular schedule -not that I didn’t give it a try at first, but it is just way too hard, especially for a blogging rookie like moi-, I usually just try to go with my own flow. When inspiration hits, she strikes hard. And inbetween those days of useful violence you, my faithful reader, will surely have something else to entertain yourself with.

Lawrence Block gave a good definition of serendipity: “Serendipity. Look for something, find something else, and realize that what you’ve found is more suited to your needs than what you thought you were looking for.”

Or, if you prefer more plain language, as Julius Comroe Jr. said it: “Serendipity is looking in a haystack for a needle and discovering a farmer’s daughter.”

I chose it as a blog title ’cause I like the word itself and it’s meaning, but also because Serendip (also Serendib) is the old Persian name for Sri Lanka. Which is the country I was born in.

  • Me

The name’s Michelle. I’ve been living in the Netherlands since the impressionable age of three. I’m fluent in Dutch, I pretend to be fluent in English and I speak and understand basic Sinhala. Being a Psychology student at the University of Amsterdam is one of my social roles in life. Besides that I am also (in no particular order) a daughter, an older sister and a girlfriend. My home, heart and laptop are in a small town near Amsterdam.

  1. Hello Miss Serendipity, :P

Very nice blog you got here. Although it is your first, I must say it already looks quite professional. I hope you get the time to write more entries every week, cause I’d love to read them all (you might pretend to be fluent in English, I love the way you write ;) ).

Have fun with your first website/blog and try to be as cute as the monkey on the right.

    Lots of love,
    Steven

  2. Nice blog! I agree with you on the monkey post. Growing up in India where monkeys are not uncommon, I have seen a few that I swear could understand what we were saying.

  3. Hello my friends :)
    ;)
