I’m starting to think that Calvin might be my long lost twin brother (if you don’t pay attention to little details like him being a six year old boy and, well, a figment of someone’s imagination)…

Yet, most of us seem to underestimate the hidden uses of air by only relying on it for breathing. What hidden uses, you say? (Yes, you do. Admit it.) Well, it seems that one creative mind certainly likes to think out-of-the-box and has thereby discovered a quite imaginative approach to air (and its hidden uses). Throw some garbage bags in and you’re all set for an original -to say the least- display of art. Enjoy!

I do. It’s a strange feeling. Like you’re temporarily in a completely different dimension than other people.

But I’ve never really felt it the other way round – rushing by while others are standing still.

I am talking about my ideal time table for posts. I have finally come to my senses and realized that it’s not going to happen, at least not now nor in the near future. Apparently inspiration doesn’t have a regular schedule. It just hits you when it wants, and (this happens most of the time) leaves you hanging when you’re trying to make a deadline.

So I’ve decided not to be too hard on myself anymore and just take life (and inspiration) as it comes. The whole purpose of this blog was to enjoy it. That cause would be entirely lost if instead it just raised my anxiety and stress levels, right?

If you’re a regular reader I advice you to check up once every two weeks or so. Don’t worry about too many posts piling up, they won’t. And besides, it’s not like they’re essay’s of 3000 words or anything.

If you don’t have anything to do for the next 13 days, and you’re the adventurous type, you can always click on Peter and ask him to take you somewhere new and exciting (blog about serendipity, remember?). Bon voyage!

Anywho, I obviously read the complete article and absolutely loved it! When I manage to find a good photo and enough time, I’m definitely going to give this a try. There’s a first time for everything, right?

Apparently ‘a magazine’ held a competition, inviting its readers to submit new scientific theories on any subject. Below is the winner.

When a cat is dropped, it always lands on its feet. And when toast is dropped, it always lands buttered side down. Therefore, if a slice of toast is strapped to a cat’s back, buttered side up, and the animal is then dropped, the two opposing forces will cause it to hover, spinning inches above the ground.

If enough toast-laden felines were used, they could form the basis of a high-speed monorail system.

This theory received a reply from another reader.

I’ve been thinking about this cat/toast business for a while. In the buttered toast case, it’s the butter that causes it to land buttered side down – it doesn’t have to be toast, the theory works equally well with Jacob’s Cream Crackers. So to save money I think you just miss out the toast – and butter the cats.

Also, should there be an imbalance between the effects of cat and butter, there are other substances that have a stronger affinity for carpet. Consider that the probability of carpet impact is determined by the following simple formula:

P = S * t(t)/tc

P is the probability of carpet impact.

S is the stain value of the toast-covering substance – an indicator of the effectiveness of the toast topping in permanently staining the carpet. Chicken Tikka Masala, for example, has a very high S value, while the S value of water is zero.

tc and t(t) indicate the tone of the carpet and topping respectively - the value of P being strongly related to the relationship between the colour of the carpet and topping, as even Chicken Tikka Masala won’t cause a permanent and obvious stain if the carpet is the same colour.

So it is obvious that the probability of carpet impact is maximised if you use Chicken Tikka Masala and a white carpet – in fact this combination gives a P value of one, which is the same as the probability of a cat landing on its feet.

Therefore, a cat with Chicken Tikka Masala on its back will be certain to hover in mid air, while there could be problems with buttered toast as the toast may fall off the cat, causing a terrible monorail crash resulting in nauseating images of members of the royal family visiting accident victims in hospital, and politicians saying it wouldn’t have happened if their party was in power as there would have been more investment in cat-toast glue research.

Therefore, it is in the interests not only of public safety but also public sanity if the buttered toast on cats idea is scrapped, to be replaced by a monorail powered by cats smeared with Chicken Tikka Masala floating above a rail made from white wool shag pile carpet.

I’m the manager at an electronics store, and ordered part number 669 at the manufacturer. When the package arrived I noticed they sent me the wrong part, namely number 699. I sent it back with an angry letter. The next day I received the new supply. It was the same package, but this time accompanied by a note reading: “Turn the box around.”

If you thought that one was funny - like I did – you should definitely read the next one too.

I work at the investigation department and I was paying an elderly lady a visit, due to a work-related matter. When I showed her my ID, she snatched it from my hands and carefully examined my photo. After a minute or so she gave the card back to me. “No,” she said. “I’ve never seen that man before.”

(By the way, if you don’t “get it” – like some people I know – don’t worry. It’ll hit you in a minute or two.)

When I finished, I realized I had cried a total of three times. Twice during and a final time after reading. I’ve always felt that if a book (or movie for that matter) has the ability to make you cry or keep you thinking about it long after it’s done, it’s a definite keeper.
